Calling All Sports Fans

Enjoy the excitement of big-league action or get in a game of golf, tennis, pickleball or beach volleyball.

With abundant sunshine throughout the year, Fort Myers makes it easy to stay in the game – whether you’re playing or cheering from the stands. From pro matchups to pickup games, you can add as much action or spectator fun into your vacation as you like.

Fun Ways to Be a Good Sport on Vacation

If you like to stay active on vacation, Fort Myers gives you plenty of room to move. Tee off on championship golf courses, rally on pickleball courts or cruise along winding bike trails. If you prefer to set your own pace, lace up for a run and enjoy the scenery.

Golf

The Fort Myers area has more golf courses than you can swing a club at, many of them known for their natural beauty. No matter your skill level, you can book a tee time, schedule a lesson or join a casual scramble at courses across the area.

Play a relaxed round at the historic Fort Myers Country Club or test your game at Eastwood Golf Course, two municipal favorites in Fort Myers. In Estero, wind through preserved Old Florida landscapes at Old Corkscrew Golf Club, or tee off alongside scenic vistas and native wildlife at Saltleaf Golf Preserve in Bonita Springs. On Sanibel Island, you can play The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club within a designated wildlife sanctuary.

Traveling with kids? Challenge the family to mini-golf, or head to PopStroke in Fort Myers, a Tiger Woods concept featuring two 18-hole putting courses and plenty of entertainment. Prefer to cool off indoors? Take your best swing to Topgolf or Chips Sports Pub, both in Fort Myers.

Pickleball and Tennis

Pickleball keeps the action bouncing across the Fort Myers area, with plenty of indoor and outdoor courts ready for a match. Drop in for open play at municipal parks in North Fort Myers or Estero or take your game indoors at ACE Pickleball Club in Fort Myers, home to 12 professional-level courts. You can even squeeze in a match at Sundial Beach Resort on Sanibel Island in between walks on the beach.

Stay active with a tennis match at Veterans Park and Recreation Center in Lehigh Acres and rally under the lights on six courts. You’ll also find plenty of competitive play at larger facilities like the Fort Myers Racquet Club.

Fans of both sports will love The Courts in Cape Coral, which offers 32 outdoor pickleball courts and 12 championship-level tennis courts. If you prefer to stay at a resort that offers both tennis and pickleball, the Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa is the perfect choice (and the sunset views are amazing).

Beach Volleyball

On Fort Myers Beach, volleyball is as laid-back (and as much fun) as it gets. Bring a ball and start your own match or join a game in progress at a volleyball net just steps from the Gulf. Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers Beach, DiamondHead and Lani Kai Island Resort are a few good bets for a pickup game.

Running

Lace up and join the crowd – Fort Myers draws thousands of runners each year for its packed race calendar. Plan your trip around favorites like the City of Palms River Run 8K & 2 Mile (in December) or the Shrimp Festival 5K in Fort Myers Beach (in March), which even includes a kids’ run. Prefer to keep it casual? Log some happy miles along the six paved miles of John Yarbrough Linear Park in Fort Myers or hit the trails at Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed in Estero.

Biking

Hop on a bike and see the Fort Myers area at your own pace. Cruise paved paths through Cape Coral, which connects riders with 90 miles of bike lanes across the city. Pedal from tip to tip on Sanibel Island’s shared-use path, one of the best ways to explore the island. Ready for an adventure? Head to Caloosahatchee Regional Park in Alva and tackle nearly 10 miles of trails built for everyone from beginners to seasoned mountain bikers.

just feels right.

The Thrill of Game Day

Traveling with die-hard sports fans? Fort Myers brings the action.

Thanks to year-round sunshine and a strong roster of teams, you can plan your getaway around game day energy.

Spring Training

Each February and March, Fort Myers turns into a spring training hot spot as baseball fans gather to see two Major League teams prepare for Opening Day. The Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins call the area home during Grapefruit League play. See the Sox at JetBlue Park at Fenway South or head to Hammond Stadium at the Lee Health Sports Complex to catch the Twins in action.

Everblades Hockey

If you crave the fast-paced excitement of ice hockey, venture to Estero to see the Florida Everblades at Hertz Arena. The high-ranking minor league team won the Kelly Cup finals for three years straight, starting in 2022. Swampee, their mascot, riles up the crowd during the games, which take place October through April.

Tip: Check team schedules and buy tickets early—spring training and Everblades games often sell out during peak season.
